“I love writing YA because the teen years are a time of taking risks, discovering the unknown, and experiencing all those heart-pounding, swoon-worthy firsts.”

As a writer, I’m driven to create stories with courageous heroines who prove that true strength and beauty lie within. My stories are designed to sweep readers away, and maybe help them discover a little bit of themselves along the way.

I have three published young adult novels–Koush Hollow, Bewitching Hannah, and Disenchanted. I’m a graduate from the University of Maryland, and a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
When I’m not writing, I spend time with loved ones, including my new goldendoodle pup. I love reading, running, and finding new inspiration for my writing. I’m a proud advocate for type one diabetes awareness as a thriving individual with the condition. My ancestral roots run deep, tracing back to Elizabeth Duncan, an accused witch from 1695 Virginia who defied convention.

Hi Leigh. My name is Jeanne Adair and I stumbled upon your website while doing some research. Yo I am a direct descendant of Sir Robert De Adair Fitzgerald. His father is Gerald Fitzgerald the 3rd Earl of Desmond who is said to have been romantically linked to the Goddess Aine. Where did your inspiration for this book come about? I always found the different legends of my ancestors to be the most interesting. I look forward to reading your book and passing it along to my daughters.

Hi Jeanne,
So nice to hear from you! I love that you’ve researched your family’s ancestry and what an exciting family to be related to!
So part of my inspiration for Bewitching Hannah comes from where the book is set—Annapolis, Maryland (my hometown). The founding families from this area are the Calverts and Arundels, who originally came from the UK. As I researched their family trees, I found they were related to the Greys and the Fitzgeralds, both of which are related to notable witches and wizards. It was amazing finding that information and became the basis for the main characters’ families and heritages (the main character, Hannah, is a Fitzgerald!). Maryland also has a history of witches/witch trials so I incorporated that, as well.
I hope you enjoy the book and thank you so much for reaching out to me!!!
Warmest regards,
Leigh Goff
